Restaurant Associates and its parent company, Compass Group North America, have made a commitment to partner with our clients' nutrition, health and wellness initiatives to foster and promote a more healthful workplace, school or community. We understand that everyone's nutritional needs are different, so we created Balanced Choices for a Healthy Lifestyle to help you make your own personal healthy choices throughout the day. By highlighting the best sources of proteins, calcium, fiber and Vitamin C, the Balanced Choices program provides education and helps promote wise food choices that will produce a balanced diet leading to overall wellness.
All of our food stations offer healthy options, from great breakfast selections including high-fiber cereals, smoothies, fruit, and low-fat yogurt, to healthy lunch items such as vegetable salads with lean proteins like grilled chicken or tuna, vegetable or tofu stir fry, and soy or veggie burgers. As for snack options, hummus, fruit and edamame are always good choices. To maintain energy levels and control hunger, we recommend eating three small meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as several nourishing snacks throughout the day.

It is a café-based nutrition education program, guided by the principles of the Food and Drug Administration’s food labeling program which was introduced in 1990 as part of the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act. Whether choosing foods in the supermarket or making a lunch selection in the café – the goal of the program is to provide nutrition education while helping to promote wise food choices that can lead to a balanced diet and overall wellness.
A starting point or reference point to help you gain a perspective on how a food fits into your overall diet is the Daily Value. Daily Values are not intended to dictate specific amounts of nutrients needed in the diet, but rather to offer general guidance. They are based on a 2,000-calorie diet, chosen because it approximates the calorie needs for weight management for a large part of the population. The Balanced Choices program icons highlight specific nutrients based on this Daily Value system.
Throughout the cafeteria, signs will be displayed at food stations to help you identify the best sources of vitamin C, fiber, calcium and protein as well as identify foods that are dairy free, vegetarian and purchased locally. |
